lesson on sharing a You Tube video or website with someone via Email when using Voice Over.

By Glenda V. Such, M. Ed.

1.      Once you have found a video or website you want to share with someone else, you do the following steps. The first rule of sharing a video is to give it to someone starting at the beginning of the video, to do that, tap one finger once near the top of the screen.

2.      Then flick right to left until you hear reload.

3.      Double tap one finger and the video will reload from the start. As soon as it starts to play, stop it by double tapping two fingers just like you do to answer  or hang up the phone.

4.      Then go to the bottom right corner of the screen again. Squeeze that far edge from around one half inch from the bottom to the bottom pressing hard.

5.      When you hear tab, show bookmarks, share, forward and back, that is where you want to be.

6.      Flick backwards right to left until you hear the word, share.

7.      Double tap one finger once and a new screen will start to read its contents.

8.      It will start with Air Drop recipient, no one found yet. Flick left to right and go past air drop, and for purposes of this lesson, past messages until you get to, Mail.

9.      Double tap on that option and a new email template will be up for you to complete.

10.   Flick Right to left and then left to right to make sure you are on the field which is labeled, too.

11.   If the person is in your contacts, you can type in just the first couple of letters of the person’s name, and a list of names that start with that letter will appear

12.   Flick left to right to move through the list which the iPhone or iPad has provided.

13.   Once you find the correct person’s name, double tap with one finger to select that person as the “To” person on this sharing of what you found on You Tube.

14.   If you want to see the subject line for this email, flick left to right until you hear subject and listen to what it says after the word subject.

15.   The subject line will have filled itself in with what it has as the title for this Video. Be aware, sometimes the subject line is almost filled with the subject of “you have been sent a You Tube Video and while the rest of the subject is there, specifically what video is being sent, it is too long to be seen on the subject line.

16.   If you want a different subject then what has been filled in, you can delete the entire line by using the roader until it says Edit. Then flick down until it says select all and then double tap on that option.

17.   Next, go down to your keyboard and tap twice the delete key and the entire subject line will be deleted.

18.   Type or dictate your desired subject.

19.   If you want to include a message, flick right to left until you hear message body and then double tap with one finger.

20.   The default location of the cursor where your typing will appear is at the bottom of the document. To move it to the top of the message body, double tap with one finger and listen for it to say insertion point at start.

21.   Now you can type or dictate your message to go along with the video you are sharing. Including a message is purely a personal decision.

22.   Whether you changed the subject or added a message, the next step is to go to the top of the screen to the Send button. To do that flick right to left until you hear Send and then double tap with one finger.

23.   You will then be back on the same You Tube page and video from where you shared it via an email.

Android Smart Phone Accessibility and Apps on Such A Site

I am providing information on this page for users of an Android Mobile Smart Phone who have a Visual Impairment or are Blind. Because I am not a user of Android’s, I am providing the below links to videos and websites which have been shared with me. In addition, there are a few which I found by researching Androids with a Visual Impairment on the Internet and through several known authorities on Accessibility of Smart Phones. If any reader has other information on this topic to share, please do write me at:

Accessible Editor Talkback, Philosophy

This explanation of the app comes from the website of the American Foundation for the Blind. Philosophy produces a number of apps for making standard mobile features more accessible (others include a phone dialer, SMS text app, and a reading app). Accessible Editor (free, Android 4.0 and later) lets you enter text via the keyboard or with your voice. Edit and view what you enter using one of several large font sizes, or have it read to you. You can choose which speech engine and voices you want to apply, as well. Combine with the same developer's Accessible Keyboard, which is also free, to get an extra-large QWERTY keyboard.

Voice Dream Reader is not only used by iPhone users but Android users too. It will allow the user to open electronic books, ebooks, ibooks, and text files and read them using its built-in screen reader.
