The American Council of the Blind (ACB) is an organization focused on enhancing the independence, security, equality opportunity, and quality of life, for all people who are blind/ and visually-impaired.
The American Foundation for the Blind is an advocacy organization that provides information and support and works to empower people with vision loss to reach their full potential throughout their lifespan.
The Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) is an nonprofit organization of blinded veterans who help blinded veterans. Via their assistance programs, regional groups, resources, and legislative advocacy, they aspire to create better lives for blinded veterans. They offer encouragement and support free to any and all blinded veterans. Legally blinded veterans are also eligible for BVA’s offerings regardless of whether they become blind during or after active duty military service.
The nonprofit organization, Computers for the Blind, (CFTB) opens the world of information technology to people who are blind or visually impaired by offering computer equipment, software and training. Council of Citizens with Low Vision International (CCLVI) is an advocacy membership organization that works to empower people with low vision in their right to make full use of their vision via the gamut of existing aids, services and technology. The organization further acts as a forum for those with low vision to express their needs, interests and preferences, as well as serving as an educational source for the public, people with low vision, professionals and others on issues relevant to those with low vision. The Hadley School for the Blind promotes independent living via lifelong, distance education options for people with visual impairment or blindness, their family members and care providers.
The International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS) has been working for 30 years to avail print material in an accessible audio format for people with visual impairment or blindness, and for those who are otherwise unable to read print. National Association of Parents of Children with Visual Impairments (NAPVI) helps parents to identify information and resources for their sons and daughters and advocates nationally for educational resources for children with visual impairments. NAPVI is an affiliate of Lighthouse Guild, and was established by volunteers, primarily parents of children who are visually impaired.
The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is a consumer organization of people who are blind working in unison to improve opportunities for those who are blind and to raise awareness of blindness issues among general public. A wealth of helpful information can be accessed through their website.
Perkins School for the Blind is an organization with wide-spread services that is committed to improving the lives of people with blindness and deaf-blindness worldwide.
Project Starfish is a nonprofit organization that works as a conduit for people with various disabilities including visual impairment and blindness to gain job skills and secure employment. Visit the Project Starfish virtual accessible platform at this link.
